TOOLBOX Shoreditch

It was cold when I first arrived at the church but when I started to walk along the graffiti the weather was getting warm which was great. The first part that took my attention was the scale of the graffiti. Some were huge that even covered the whole building. One of the work was right next to “No Graffiti Offenders will be prosecuted” sign and that was humorous but also I was able to feel the passion of the artist as well. The town was so different from what I saw from Kensington outing. I was able to find people who had so much energy and that even told from what they were wearing. I really enjoyed the mood of the whole street because the graffiti on the walls blended with the people walking down the streets.

At first it was challenging to find art works that related to the V&A outing but then I started to look at it as idea wise and it made it easier to find similarities that linked the works to the swords and daggers that I chose in the previous outing. For example I really liked the contrast in the sword where it had beautiful flower patterns carved into it. I found artworks in Shoreditch that also show contrasts even if it didn’t had anything to do with swords or other weaponry.

Visiting different vintage shops was also very new to me. Especially I was shocked by how big the shops were. Compared to Korean shops, shops in Shoreditch had variety of clothings and accessories. One thing I found very interesting was that it was very well organized and I was able to find products easily especially in Atika. The trip was overall very inspirational to me because I was in the middle of art. I’ve learned how art can be expressed in different ways and in this particular case in Shoreditch, how art can change the whole vibe of the town.
